midazolam (Versed)

contraindications:
- known allergy
- acute narrow angle glaucoma
dosing:
- 1.0-2.0 mg loading dose
- can give 0.5 mg incremental doses after 2 minutes
- end point of sedation is slurred speech
- total dose of not more than 5-6 mg
institute continuous cardiac monitoring & pulse oximetry
