midazolam (Versed)


  • contraindications:
    • known allergy
    • acute narrow angle glaucoma

  • dosing:
    • 1.0-2.0 mg loading dose
    • can give 0.5 mg incremental doses after 2 minutes
    • end point of sedation is slurred speech
    • total dose of not more than 5-6 mg

  • institute continuous cardiac monitoring & pulse oximetry
