medulloblastoma


  • 2-6% of all intracranial gliomas
  • most malignant infratentorial neoplasm (radiosensitive)
  • most common neoplasm of posterior fossa in childhood
  • 15-20% of all pediatric intracranial tumors
  • 5-14 years old (2/3); 15-35 years old (1/3); M:F = 2:1
  • site: a) vermis cerebelli + roof of 4th ventricle (kids) in 91%
  • b) cerebellar hemisphere (older age group)
  • findings: 1) usually >2 cm
    • 2) slightly hyperdense (70%); isodense (20%); mixed (10%)
    • 3) rapid homogeneous enhancement (97%)
    • 4) hydrocephalus (85%)
    • 5) cystic/necrotic areas (16%)
    • 6) calcification (13%); hemmorhage (3%)
    • 7) subarachnoid mets (30%) to spinal cord, cerebral
    • convexities, suprasellar cistern
    • 8) skeletal mets
