cholesterolosis


    type of hyperplastic cholecystosis
  • abnormal deposits of cholesterol esters in macrophages within lamina propria (foam cells) and in mucous epithelium

    strawberry gallbladder = lipid cholecystitis = cholesterosis
  • seedlike patchy/diffuse thickening
  • a/w cholesterol gallstones in 50-70%
  • not related to serum cholesterol
  • radiologically not demonstrable

    cholesterol polyp
  • multiple small filling defects <10mm in diameter
  • most common fixed filling defect of gall bladder
  • location: usually middle 1/3 of gallbladder
