cystic adnexal masses
- ovarian cyst
- mature follicle measures up to 2.5 cm at ovulation
- corpus luteum cyst common in first 16 weeks of pregnancy
- polycystic (Stein-Leventhal) disease
- paraovarian cyst
- Wolffian duct remnants in broad ligament
- ovarian neoplasm
- serous cystadenoma (most common benign ovarian tumor)
- mucinous cystadenoma (usually complex)
- cystic teratoma (usually complex)
- endometriosis
- diffuse (not detectable by US)
- localized (generally anechoic or hypoechoic)
- ectopic pregnancy
- pelvic inflammatory disease
- gonorrhea or chlamydia
- localized abscess and hydrosalpinx
- non-gynecologic mass
