acalculous cholecystitis


etiology:
  • depressed motility and starvation: trauma, burns, surgery, TPN, anesthesia, narcotics
  • decreased blood flow through cystic artery: CHF, arteriosclerosis, polyarteritis nodosa, SLE, diabetes, shock
  • obstruction of cystic duct by extrinsic inflammation, lymphadenopathy, metastases
  • infection: Salmonella, cholera, Kawasaki syndrome
