valvular aortic stenosis


secondary to fusion of commisures between cusps

types:

  1. bicuspid/unicuspid (95%): in 1-2% of population; M>F; commonly associated with coarctation
  2. tricuspid (5%)
  3. dysplastic thickened aortic cusps

in infants with crtical aortic stenosis: child/adult:
  • LV configuration with normal heart size
  • postenotic dilatation
  • calcified valve (60% of patients >24 y.o.)
