intracranial mycotic aneurysm
- 3% of all intracranial aneurysms; multiple in 20%
- source:
- subacute bacterial endocarditis (65%)
- acute bacterial endocarditis (9%)
- menigitis (9%)
- septic thrombophlebitis (9%)
- myxoma
- location:
- peripheral to first bifurcation of major vessel (64%)
- often near the surface of brain (esp. over convexities)
Note: develops recurrent bleeding more frequently than congenital aneurysms
