intracranial mycotic aneurysm


  • 3% of all intracranial aneurysms; multiple in 20%

  • source:
    • subacute bacterial endocarditis (65%)
    • acute bacterial endocarditis (9%)
    • menigitis (9%)
    • septic thrombophlebitis (9%)
    • myxoma

  • location:
    • peripheral to first bifurcation of major vessel (64%)
    • often near the surface of brain (esp. over convexities)

  • Note: develops recurrent bleeding more frequently than congenital aneurysms
