• S/P aortic valve surgery, CABG

• S. aureus (53%)
• Salmonella (33-50%)
• streptococcus

• ascending aorta > visceral artery > intracranial artery > upper/lower extremity artery

• saccular structure arising eccentrically from aortic wall
• periaortic gas formation
• adjacent vertebral osteomyelitis
• adjacent reactive lymph node enlargement

• life threatening hemmorhage (75%)
• 67% overall mortality
