erosive gastritis


hemorrhagic gastritis

etiology (50% without causative factors):

  • emotional stress, alcohol, acid, corrosives, severe burns, antiinflammatory agents (aspirin, steroids, phenylbutazone, etc.)
  • Crohn disease
  • herpes, CMV, candidiasis

X-ray:
  • varioliform erosion ("target lesions"), <5mm, usually multiple
  • nodularity/scalloping of prominent antral folds
  • incomplete erosion (linear streaks/dots of barium)
  • may have contiguous duodenal disease
  • limited distensibility, poor peristalsis/atony, delayed gastric emptying

  • 0.5-10% of all GI studies
  • 10-20% of all GI hemmorrhage
