erosive gastritis
hemorrhagic gastritis
etiology (50% without causative factors):
- emotional stress, alcohol, acid, corrosives, severe burns,
antiinflammatory agents (aspirin, steroids, phenylbutazone, etc.)
- Crohn disease
- herpes, CMV, candidiasis
X-ray:
- varioliform erosion ("target lesions"), <5mm, usually multiple
- nodularity/scalloping of prominent antral folds
- incomplete erosion (linear streaks/dots of barium)
- may have contiguous duodenal disease
- limited distensibility, poor peristalsis/atony,
delayed gastric emptying
- 0.5-10% of all GI studies
- 10-20% of all GI hemmorrhage
