pneumothorax


  • chest trauma and iatrogenic are the most common causes of pneumothorax
  • "spontaneous"
    • rupture of apical blebs
    • tall, thin build (M:F 8:1)

  • COPD (ruptured bulla)
  • pleural or pulmonary malignancy
  • infection/pneumonia
  • complication of honeycomb lung
  • catamenial
  • lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM)
  • eosinophilic granuloma (EG)

  • neonatal: meconium aspiration, barotrauma
