slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE)


  • boys > girls
  • age 10 - 15 yrs
  • blacks > whites (unlike CHD + Legg-Perthes disease)
  • related to height, weight, athletic activity

  • if BILATERAL ==> renal osteodystrophy

  • femoral epiphysis slips POSTERIORLY and MEDIALLY
  • use frog-leg + lateral projections

  • complications:
    • AVN
    • acute cartilage necrosis (chondrolysis)
    • varus deformity
