- diabetics
- alcoholics
- chronic form
- associated with underlying lung disease
- associated with underlying lung disease
- unusual in infants + children (but may be epidemic)
- mortality about 50% (less in epidemic form)
- death often in 48 hours

- XR findings:
- alveolar exudate ==> increased lung volume
