• elevated uric acid

• multiple, sharply marginated punched out erosions with sclerotic rims (assymetric in distribution unlike RA) sometimes associated with soft tissue masses representing tophi
• good bone denstity (unlike RA)
• "overhanging edge" sign of some erosions (i.e. well-defined protruding shelf of bone at the margins of erosion)

• negative birefringence
• unilateral sacroiliitis
