  • 80% ==> obstructive emphysema ("air trapping")
  • 20% ==> obstructive atelectasis
  • <1% ==> normal aeration

  • normal bronchi dilate during inspiration
  • the aspirated particle acts as a one-way valve

  • decubitus or inspiratory/expiratory views
