accessory spleen
- found in 10-30% of normal population
- clinically important in:
- hemolytic anemia
- ITP
- hereditary spherocytosis
- hypertrophy may cause relapse s/p splenectomy
- none found larger than 2.5 cm
- often multiple (~10%)
not to be confused with polysplenia syndrome
